On Dec. 11 Prof. Juan Carlos Duque, RiSE Group (Research in Spatial Economics) Director, traveled to Guatemala, along with representatives of Deloitte & Touche, to make part of the auditor group hired by the National Electric Energy Commission ( CNEE) from Guatemala to verify the opening of economic offers and the offers selection for the construction, operation and exploitation of 817.9 miles of electric transmission lines that are part of the Expansion Plan Transportation Network of Electric Energy of that country.
Professor Duque was responsible for formulating the optimization model to reproduce the conditions of the sealed auction by the CNEE, so that the results of this model could be used to certify that the assignment of the contracts was the optimal. Also served as adviser to the CNEE for tuning the software that the institution used to carry out the auction. The process was a success as the President of the Commission, Mr. Carlos Colom said. The Energy Company of Bogotá was the winner of the licitation when offered an annual canon of US$32 million 349 thousand 900 for electricity transport for 15 years. Auctions of this type will continue occurring in Central and South America, and Professor Duque expects RiSE to continue serving in this type of events to continue with the international projection of the youngest research group of EAFIT University.
